How to install codeigniter

CodeIgniter is open source web application development framework for PHP. It is base on Model View Controller (MVC) pattern, which helps to separate the application's concerns and isolates the front-end and back-end code. It provides many core libraries and reusable helper classes which helps to speed up your development process.

Today we are going to learn how to install and configure the codeIgniter framework on your local machine. Follow the below steps to write your .

Download CodeIgniter Framework
Go to http://www.codeigniter.com and download latest version of CodeIgniter framework. Here I am using CodeIgniter 3.1.0
Unzip and Installing CodeIgniter
Once the downloading is completed, unzip the respected file ("CodeIgniter-3.1.0"). Now rename the extracted folder name to your application name. Like in my case I have used "helloworld"
I am using XMAPP to run the PHP application on my local machine. Now copy the newly created project in XMAPP htdocs folder "C:\xampp\htdocs\helloworld". See the folders structure in the left hand window panel. There are three important folders — application, system, and user_guide.
user_guide folder contains the entire CodeIgniter User Guide. you can view this local copy of the user guide using direct file path file:///C:/xampp/htdocs/helloworld/user_guide/index.html or http://localhost/helloworld/user_guide
system folder contains all of the core libraries and helper API of CodeIgniter. As these are core libraries , please do not modify these files.
application folder is the one we have to write our business logic. Write application specific models, views and controllers.
Configure base url
Open the "C:/xampp/htdocs/helloworld/application/config/config.php" file and modify the base_url. Once this is done verify the changes.
$config['base_url'] = "http://localhost/helloworld";
Run and verify CodeIgniter application
Enter the URL
http://localhost/helloworld in your browser, It will show you the welcome page content. In upcoming tutorials we will see more about codeigniter.
